Mama, I can see you now — standing in your closet, baby on your hip, wondering if the wrong sweater is going to ruin everything.

Take a breath.

The most important thing in your photos will never be the color of your shirt.

It will be the way your baby fits in your arms.
The way your toddler kisses your cheek.
The way you look at your family.

That’s what lasts.

But since you asked… let’s talk about color.

Color Doesn’t Make the Photo — But It Does Shape the Feeling

Colors absolutely influence the mood of your images.

Soft neutrals feel calm and timeless.
Earth tones feel warm and grounded.
Muted shades create that dreamy, connected feel so many mamas are drawn to.

Bright neons, bold logos, or heavy patterns? They tend to pull attention away from faces and emotion. And in the kind of storytelling sessions I photograph, I want your connection to be the first thing people see — not a loud graphic tee.

If You Love My Editing Style…

If you’re hiring me because you love the natural, moody, earthy feel of my work, wardrobe plays an important role in that final look.

Muted tones — creams, soft browns, dusty blues, sage, rust — photograph beautifully with my editing style. They allow skin tones to glow and keep the overall image feeling cohesive and timeless.

When outfits align with that softer color palette, your gallery will feel exactly like the images that made you reach out in the first place.

Not trendy.
Not busy.
Just warm, connected, and honest.

What I Recommend

For maternity, newborn, and family sessions, I usually guide mamas toward:

  • Creams

  • Soft greens

  • Earthy browns

  • Muted blues

  • Subtle, blended tones

Nothing matchy-matchy. Nothing stiff.

Just pieces that flow together naturally and let you move comfortably.

A Little Extra Support (Because I Know This Can Feel Overwhelming)

If choosing outfits feels like one more thing on an already full plate, I want you to know you’re not doing this alone.

I do have a small collection of long, flowy neutral dresses available for mamas to wear during their session — soft fabrics, timeless tones, pieces that photograph beautifully in natural light.

I also keep a few simple, neutral knit outfits for newborns that you’re welcome to use.

Sometimes having that option takes the pressure off completely.

But Here’s the Most Important Part

If you put something on and you feel uncomfortable or not like yourself… it will show.

If you wear something soft and familiar and you feel beautiful in it? That shows too.

I would rather you feel at ease than perfectly coordinated.

Because the photos I create aren’t about perfect styling.

They’re about preserving this season of your life — the messy buns, the stretchy sweaters, the bare feet, the milk-drunk babies, the wild toddlers.

Real life.

And when real life meets thoughtful tones and beautiful light?

That’s where the magic happens.
