What Are Personality Portraits?
Let’s be honest—traditional school photos don’t always capture our kids the way we see them. That’s where Fine Art Personality Portraits come in.
These modern, minimalist portraits focus on what makes your child them—their spark, their quirks, their quiet confidence or big energy. No fake backdrops. No forced smiles. Just honest, timeless images of your little one, exactly as they are in this season of life.
As a Minnesota photographer and mom of two, I created these sessions to celebrate real childhood—those in-between expressions, toothy grins, shy glances, and wild giggles. Every child has their own magic, and these portraits are made to honor that.
What Should My Child Wear?
When it comes to outfit choices, simple is best. The goal is to let your child’s personality take center stage without distraction. Think clean, classic, and comfortable.
✅ Say Yes To:
Solid colors — Soft neutrals, earth tones, or muted shades work beautifully.
Textured fabrics — Waffle knits, ribbed shirts, cozy sweaters, or eyelet details add lovely depth.
Small prints — Delicate florals or subtle stripes can add interest without overwhelming.
❌ Skip These:
Neon colors — They can cast color onto your child’s face and distract from their expression.
Large patterns or graphics — Busy designs can steal focus.
Logos, text, or characters — These tend to date the photo and may get cropped awkwardly.
Bulky hoodies — These can hide necklines and feel heavy in close-up shots.
Above all, choose something your child feels good in. When they’re comfortable, it shows!
What If My Child Doesn’t Smile?
Great question—and one I get often.
Here’s the truth: I’m not here for the forced smile. If your child is joyful and bubbly, we’ll run with that. But if they’re more thoughtful or serious, that’s beautiful too.
These sessions are all about real expressions. I gently guide each child, creating space for their true personality to come through—whether that’s a quiet stare, a cheeky grin, or full-on silliness.
No pressure. No “say cheese.” Just honest moments.
How Long Will It Take?
Each child’s session takes about 5-15 minutes. Short, sweet, and designed to keep things relaxed and fun. This quick pace helps prevent overwhelm and keeps the experience enjoyable—especially for little ones.
How Many Photos Will I Receive?
You’ll receive a curated collection of 5 distinct images per child.
Some kids are eager to express themselves with a whole range of faces. Others are a bit more reserved. I always follow their lead, and either way, you’ll come away with images that feel honest and meaningful.
These portraits are keepsakes you’ll treasure for years.
